We Serve

Global Causes

The Lions motto is:

The Lions Motto - We Serve

And there’s no better expression of our service than the five Global Causes that Lions serves.

Lions Global Service causes

Lions around the world believe every journey begins with a single step. One act of service, one encouraging word, one gift of generosity is often all it takes to bring hope where it is needed most.

Over more than 100 years in service to the global community, the kindness of Lions and Leos has multiplied across borders, oceans, and continents. With over 1.4 million members, as Lions we have an opportunity to truly change our world.

That’s why Lions are united around our global service around five areas of need. These Global Causes present significant challenges to humanity, and we believe it’s our turn to meet them.

There’s an overview below of each of our five Global Causes and a link to the Lions International web pages on each cause so that you can discover more, including how to take more action as well as read stories celebrating how Lions and Leos have been making a difference in these areas of service.

Lions Global Cause - Diabetes

DIABETES

Diabetes contributes to more than 5 million deaths a year, making it the eighth-leading cause of death in the world. And the numbers are rising.

The International Diabetes Federation reports that 1 in 2 people with diabetes are undiagnosed. Lions recognise the needs of the world are changing, and have championed the cause of diabetes to better serve both our communities and the world.

Our Strategy: reduce the prevalence of diabetes and improve quality of life for those diagnosed.

Lions Global Cause - Environment

ENVIRONMENT

The earth sustains human life. We’ve seen how our stewardship of natural resources can improve quality of life and increase engagement in our local communities. Our environment is more than a background: it’s our home. And we’re committed to caring for it.

Lions and Leos serve to strengthen the relationship between the community and its environment. We’ve seen how our stewardship of natural resources can improve quality of life and increase engagement in our local communities.

Our Strategic Objective: Sustainably protect and restore our environment to improve the well-being of all communities.

Lions Global Cause - Hunger

HUNGER

We serve to improve human flourishing. We see how the global hunger and nutrition crisis bears upon our local communities, and believe true community improvement depends on the thriving of its members.

Lions and Leos serve to improve human flourishing, and we see how the global hunger and nutrition crisis bears upon our local communities. We believe community improvement depends on the thriving of its members.

Our Strategic Objective: Ensure all community members have access to nutritious foods.

Lions Global Cause - Vision

VISION

Ever since Helen Keller inspired us to champion the cause in 1925, we’ve served and advocated for the blind and visually impaired. Nearly a century later, this long-standing mission continues unhindered.

We have a long history of serving the blind and visually impaired, and remain committed to continuing this mission into our next century of service.

Our Strategic Objective: Prevent avoidable blindness and improve quality of life for people who are blind and visually impaired.

Lions Global Cause - Childhood Cancer

CHILDHOOD CANCER

Lions and Leos provide support for the needs of children and families affected by childhood cancer through impactful service activities.

Our Plan:

  • Lions and Leos help children and families: Increase acts of support to families and children affected by childhood cancer;
  • Lions and Leos help communities: Improve diagnostics, treatment, and continued care to those affected by childhood cancer; and
  • Lions and Leos help the world: Increase awareness for childhood cancer as a global priority.
