Lions is a community service organisation! People join Lions because they want to use their intellect, creativity, commitment and enthusiasm to get things done. This is where you can find out about our previous and active projects in the local and wider community.

Being aware of diversity is important at all levels of VCAL. At the Year 11 level at Bellarine Secondary College they dedicate a major part of Term II to diversity awareness with a particular emphasis on understanding disabilities. This is achieved via in-class lessons and through our involvement in the
Scope Young Ambassador Program, Balloon Football and the ProjectABLE presentation.
Each week, for four weeks, a small team of students travel to the Leisuretime Centre, Anakie Road, Norlane to participate in Balloon Football competitions. The students are introduced to the competitors and provided with guidance regarding the best way of communicating with and supporting each participant.
Transport is provided on behalf of the Lions Club of Geelong by Robert Quarrel for the year’s events.
Once the game is completed, all participants line up for a group team shot before the participants all head off to their next activities.
The Balloon Football sessions complete the Scope program. It is hoped that having the opportunity to look at disability from a new perspective will empower the students to be more active in the future in advocating for more inclusive communities. The knowledge and skills they have gained are sure to be transferrable into many situations including future employment.
